5/28/04 VJ Moto performing for "SUBSTANCE:NYC" at "Volume"

I heard a lot about Volume but never had the chance of going there until I performed in this event. Volume is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the "SUBSTANCE:NYC" event was organized ENABLER.

Volume was very different from other venues in its size and atmosphere. First of all the place is HUGE, the main room alone could probably fit thousands people. There are also two other smaller rooms for more DJs and VJs.

Giles, Dan and I performed in the main room, we used three different projectors on all three walls. There was also a separate room where we installed our gear.

The show was great and I especially enjoyed mixing visuals while Ken Ishii was playing. Normally I am not so big fan of techno and I would rather prefer heavier beats. But I always enjoyed Ken's music because his tracks are sharp and intense. His live performance was amazing, his live beat at least 10 times more intense than in his CDs!

The funny thing is that even though the party Ken Ishii's performance was stunning, a lot of the people stopped coming to the main room where he was playing. Later on we found out that New York City's Fire Department had showed up that night and ordered the venue to be shut down due to some architectural problems, so after that the entrance had been closed and no more people were allowed to enter...
